The reluctant professor of religion - Gregory Angell - returns in this sequel to The Lovecraft Code. He has fled to a virtual underworld in a remote corner of Mongolia, nursing his psychic wounds and wondering how to re-enter a world he no longer recognises. When he finally does, his demons will precede him.
Based on the themes in H. P. Lovecraft's The Dunwich Horror, this novel continues the earlier depiction of a struggle between two forces: not light versus darkness but us versus them.
Beginning with the harrowing experience of an alien abductee in a small New England town and continuing through a series of encounters with a renowned mathematician, mercenary geneticists, an international ring of pornographers, the human trafficking cult of the Islamic State and practitioners of an arcane form of sexual occultism, DUNWICH follows Angell as he attempts to evade capture by Monroe's elite intelligence team and the practitioners from the Cult of Dagon. He races to a remote location in Southeast Asia that has become the target of those who are bitter over their previous defeat by Angell, as described in The Lovecraft Code. Unbeknownst to Angell, the gentle yet determined Yezidi woman and channeler, Jamila, is on the same mission.
Through it all, we discover an unlikely alliance with a homicide detective in New Orleans who finds himself surrounded by a cult so ancient it no longer has a name. All it has is a book. Or, it had a book - the one that is now nestled safely in Gregory Angell's backpack.
What secret is buried so deeply within human DNA that exposing its mysteries would serve only to undermine humanity's most cherished institutions?
