This book is the result of years of research into the history of the Spear of Destiny and the struggle between good and evil in the Western world. First published in 1896, King presents the cuneiform text of a group of 60 clay tablets inscribed with prayers and religious compositions of a devotional and magical character. These tablets were created by the scribes of Ashurbanipal, King of Assyria, between 669-625 b.c., and are currently part of the Kuyunjik collection in the British Museum.

Escaping to the magnificence of the Tyrolean Alps for a much-needed respite from the angst of his life the narrator of this delightful and instructive tale encounters a mysterious dwarf who seems to understand the dilemmas that cloud his mind. The dwarf leads him to the Brothers of the Golden and Rosy Cross where the narrator begins his adventure among adepts of the Order.
